Gardaí, the Irish police force, intercepted a vehicle carrying a completed bomb in County Monaghan on Wednesday afternoon. Authorities believe the device was being transported across the border for an intended attack in Northern Ireland.

The vehicle was stopped on the N2 near Carrickmacross at approximately 3:00 PM local time. Two people were arrested in connection with the incident. A woman in her 20s, who was driving the vehicle, was taken into custody, and a man in his 40s was arrested later.

The operation targeted dissident republican activity. The Irish Defence Forces Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team was called to examine the vehicle. Gardaí have not released details regarding the outcome of this examination for operational reasons.
