Canary Islands Resorts Ranked Worst by Tourists, With One Tenerife Destination Named 'Worst'

Playa de las Américas in Tenerife has been named the worst resort in the Canary Islands by a recent survey conducted by consumer champion Which?. The destination received a 62 percent customer score, with two-star ratings in categories such as 'Shopping' and 'Scenery'.

The resort is characterized by its vibrant nightlife, particularly along Verónica’s Strip, and a focus on drinking and partying, which the Which? report describes as being "in the place’s DNA."

Following closely behind as the second-worst resort is Puerto del Carmen in Lanzarote, which garnered a 65 percent customer score. This resort also received two-star ratings for 'Tourist attractions', 'Scenery', and 'Shopping'.

Puerto del Carmen in Lanzarote takes the penultimate spot in this year's list

Other poorly rated resorts include Caleta de Fuste in Fuerteventura (66 percent) and Playa del Inglés in Gran Canaria (67 percent).

The survey results were compiled from an online poll of 928 Which? Connect panel members conducted between June and July of this year. Factors such as 'Peace and quiet', 'Accommodation', and 'Tourist attractions' were considered in the evaluation.

Drinking, partying and a raucous ambience are at the core of the resort's identity

On the opposite end of the spectrum, Puerto Mogán in Gran Canaria was recognized as the top-rated resort, achieving a 79 percent customer score. Puerto de la Cruz in Tenerife secured the second-highest rating at 77 percent.

Both Puerto Mogán and Puerto de la Cruz were the only resorts to receive four stars for their scenery in the 2026 survey. The findings highlight significant variations in tourist satisfaction across the different towns and resorts within the Canary Islands, with factors like atmosphere, amenities, and natural beauty playing key roles in holidaymaker experiences.
