A Canadian national accused of slapping a teenager wearing Trump-branded pants at Point Pleasant Beach has been turned over to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
Kaitlyn Tracey, 33, was arrested after allegedly confronting a group of teens on the Fourth of July weekend. Surveillance video reportedly showed her striking one of the girls, who was wearing pants with "Trump" and "ICE" printed on them. The alleged victim reportedly sustained no injuries.
Tracey, who entered the U.S. on a passport in 2024, faces charges including endangering the welfare of a child and simple assault, according to local media reports. An official at the Ocean County Jail confirmed that Tracey was released into ICE custody on Monday and was taken to Delaney Hall in Newark.
It remains unclear on what immigration basis ICE initiated proceedings against Tracey. The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has not immediately clarified the specific immigration status or basis for detention.
Newark's Delaney Hall has been the site of recent protests and clashes between demonstrators and ICE agents. DHS Secretary Markwayne Mullin has vowed "zero tolerance" for attacks against ICE agents, while Sen. Cory Booker, D-N.J., has called ICE "out-of-control."
