Cameron Young Signed LIV Golf Intent Document in 2022, Court Filings Reveal

Newly revealed court documents stemming from LIV Golf's bankruptcy proceedings indicate that PGA Tour player Cameron Young signed a document of intent to join the LIV Golf league following the 2022 Open Championship. The documents surfaced as part of LIV Golf's Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing.

Young had publicly expressed interest in joining LIV Golf during its inaugural season in 2022. Court filings confirmed this interest was more than just discussion, showing he had taken concrete action. The document of intent was dated July 24, 2022, one week after the conclusion of the 2022 Open Championship at St. Andrews, where Cameron Smith ultimately won and subsequently joined LIV Golf.

Despite signing the intent, Young ultimately decided to remain with the PGA Tour. He made this decision public after weeks of speculation, stating his choice to stay following the final round of the 2022 Tour Championship. At that time, Young was ranked 17th in the world without a PGA Tour victory. Since then, he has climbed to No. 4 in the world rankings, secured three wins, including the 2026 Players Championship, and represented the United States in the Ryder Cup and Presidents Cup.

In other PGA Tour news, the Butterfield Bermuda Championship was shortened to 54 holes due to high winds. Ultimately, Austin Smotherman and Seamus Power, the 54-hole co-leaders, competed in a Monday playoff at Port Royal. After playing the 16th hole twice with pars, Smotherman secured the victory on his third attempt with another par, as Power was unable to get up and down from the rough.

Smotherman's win in Bermuda marked his second victory in his last two starts, following his win at the Bank of Utah Championship earlier in October. This marks a significant run for the 32-year-old, who had previously recorded only two Top 25 finishes since May.

The PGA Tour is also set to return to Mexico for the Mexico Open at Vidanta World. The event, previously held in February 2025, featured a memorable playoff between Aldrich Potgieter and Brian Campbell. The playoff on the Par 5 18th hole concluded when Campbell birdied after Potgieter's tee shot went into the rough, and Potgieter missed a putt to extend the playoff. Both Campbell and Potgieter are scheduled to compete this week.
