A professor at the University of Cambridge has resigned following an investigation into allegations of plagiarism and questions surrounding his professional history. Professor Jason Arday had been accused of copying parts of his doctoral thesis and faced scrutiny over claims made about his academic career.

Arday, who was noted as the university's youngest Black professor and a figurehead for diversity initiatives, was initially supported by Cambridge. The university had previously described the criticism against him as a "vile campaign to undermine his credibility."

However, the situation shifted after reports emerged detailing disputes from several universities regarding Arday's assertions of holding academic posts with them. Following these revelations, the university announced it was initiating action.

Before his resignation, Professor Arday stated that the criticism directed at him was "racially motivated" and that he had become a focal point for opposition to diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) policies. He claimed to be a "lightning rod" for such issues.
