Callaway Golf has terminated its relationship with the popular YouTube golf channel Good Good, citing an "unacceptable" commercial that caused widespread backlash. The decision comes after the golf equipment manufacturer faced criticism for reposting a video that depicted Good Good co-founder Garrett Clark shoving a female co-host to the ground.
Both Callaway and Good Good initially removed the commercial and issued apologies. However, on Thursday, Callaway announced it had "ended its relationship with Good Good, effective immediately." The company stated that it had listened to feedback, including personal stories from individuals affected by violence against women, and acknowledged that "violence against women is unacceptable and should never be trivialized, normalized, or used as entertainment."
Callaway revealed that its content review process was insufficient in this instance and that it has implemented internal corrective actions and strengthened its approval procedures. Furthermore, Callaway is committing $1 million to organizations dedicated to preventing violence against women, supporting survivors, and promoting education and awareness.
The company emphasized its commitment to being a positive influence in golf and its communities, stating that it is "further strengthening our commitment to these initiatives" and that this will be an ongoing focus. Callaway aims to learn from the incident and foster an environment where "everyone feels respected, valued, and welcome."
