Five universities in California have been recognized among the top 40 institutions nationwide for their role in fostering long-term career success among graduates. The rankings, compiled by LinkedIn, analyze undergraduate schools across the U.S. to identify those that best equip students for enduring professional achievement.
Stanford University secured the 10th position overall, leading the California contingent. The University of California, Berkeley was ranked 29th, followed by the California Institute of Technology at 31st, the University of Southern California at 33rd, and Claremont McKenna College at 40th.
UC Berkeley was noted as the second-best public university, with its proximity to Silicon Valley cited as a contributing factor. Claremont McKenna College made its debut in this year's rankings.
According to LinkedIn's VP and Executive Editor, Laura Lorenzetti, the ranking aims to provide students and families with an additional perspective for evaluating higher education options by examining how graduates build their careers over time. This includes their ability to secure initial employment, expand professional networks, and advance into leadership roles.
Nationally, the top of the list was dominated by East Coast institutions, with Princeton University claiming the top spot, followed by Duke University, Harvard University, and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Harvard, Princeton, and Stanford universities were highlighted for having the largest proportion of alumni who become CEOs at companies with over 1,000 employees.
The ranking indicated that 43 of the top 50 schools remained consistent with the previous year's list. LinkedIn's methodology excludes military service academies, for-profit colleges, highly specialized institutions, and colleges offering exclusively online or degree completion programs.
