California Thief's Skateboard Escape Attempt Ends in Capture
Security footage captures a man's clumsy attempt to flee with stolen tools, leading to his swift arrest.
In Vacaville, California, a man's bid for a quick getaway on a skateboard after stealing tools turned into a public spectacle, captured on security cameras.
Marc Marino, 35, was apprehended on September 24 after he stole approximately $1,400 worth of tools from a plumbing van in the early morning hours. The incident unfolded around 2 a.m. when Marino, according to authorities, accessed the van and removed various tools.
His escape plan involved a skateboard, but the execution proved disastrous. Video footage shows Marino attempting to maneuver between two parked vehicles while carrying the stolen items. His skateboard failed him, causing him to crash into both vehicles and then fall to the ground.
A resident alerted authorities after noticing suspicious activity involving individuals on scooters and a car speeding away. An officer investigating the initial report discovered a large pipe wrench in the roadway, which led to the subsequent investigation into the van theft.
Responding to the report of stolen tools from a work vehicle, officers identified Marino. A subsequent probation compliance search at his residence led to the recovery of the stolen tools, including a Milwaukee portable band saw and a Milwaukee Sawzall, along with other property believed to be stolen.
Marino was booked into the Solano County Jail and faces multiple felony charges, including theft, conspiracy, and violation of probation.
