California School Campus Listed for $14 Million After Sudden Closure

An entire private school campus in Southern California has been put up for sale for $14 million after its abrupt closure this summer. Palm Valley School in Rancho Mirage shut its doors and filed for bankruptcy in June, leaving parents and staff searching for answers.

The 36-acre property, which includes facilities for preschool, lower school, middle school, and upper school, is now listed on the market. The campus features 53 classrooms, a gymnasium, a science lab, an outdoor amphitheater, a baseball field, a softball field, a soccer/lacrosse/football field, and multiple parking areas.

Founded in 1952, Palm Valley School had operated at its Rancho Mirage location since 1992. It was the only private, co-educational, non-religious college-preparatory day school in the Coachella Valley.

In April, the school alerted parents to financial difficulties and explored a potential partnership or merger. Despite assuring parents that a gift would ensure the school could remain open, the institution later announced it would file for Chapter 7 bankruptcy and not reopen for the academic year.

According to reports, parents and staff felt misled by the school board regarding the financial situation and fundraising efforts. Some parents also reported not receiving their daughter's enrollment fees back.
