Descanso Junction Restaurant, a Western-themed eatery located on Southern California’s State Route 79, has been recognized as the best hole-in-the-wall for comfort food in California by The Takeout. The restaurant, situated about a 40-minute drive east of San Diego, offers a unique dining experience reminiscent of the Old West.

Founded in 2003 by Tammy and Brett Cooker, Descanso Junction features saloon-inspired decor and a menu filled with classic American comfort foods. Offerings range from breakfast staples like eggs benedict and biscuits and gravy to lunch and dinner items such as chicken-fried steak, meatloaf, and Salisbury steak. The restaurant also provides a diverse selection of barbecue, Italian, and Mexican dishes.
