Solvang, a California town known for its Danish-inspired architecture and pastries, has been recognized for its popular weekly farmers market. The Solvang Farmers Market was ranked the second-best farmers market in America by Reviewed in its 2026 Readers’ Choice Awards.
Only Boston’s Copley Square Farmers Market ranked higher. The Solvang market surpassed others like the Charleston Farmers Market, which came in third, and Seattle’s Pike Place Market, ranked fourth.
The market, located on First Street in downtown Solvang, operates year-round on Wednesday afternoons. It features regional growers, ranchers, and food purveyors offering seasonal produce and locally sourced goods. Reviewed noted the market’s diverse selection of organic produce and its easily navigable layout. The surrounding Santa Ynez Valley wine country and the town’s unique Danish village atmosphere contribute to its appeal as a destination.
Solvang, situated about 35 miles northwest of Santa Barbara, has cultivated its Danish-American heritage to become a notable tourist attraction.
Another California market, the Downtown San Luis Obispo Farmers Market, also made the top 10, securing the tenth position. This market distinguishes itself by operating on Thursday nights, transforming five blocks of downtown into a lively event with over 100 vendors selling produce, baked goods, crafts, prepared foods, and barbecue, accompanied by live entertainment.
Other markets recognized in the top 10 include Lancaster Central Market in Pennsylvania (fifth), Dane County Farmers' Market in Wisconsin (sixth), North Carolina's State Farmers Market (seventh), Roanoke City Market in Virginia (eighth), and Boulder Farmers Market in Colorado (ninth).
