Terra Restaurant and Bar, situated on the third floor of Eataly Silicon Valley in San Jose, has had its health permit suspended following the discovery of live and dead cockroaches during a health inspection. The County of Santa Clara Department of Environmental Health suspended the permit on Friday due to vermin contamination.
An inspector found a live cockroach on a kitchen wall above a hand-washing sink, along with dead cockroaches in the food preparation area. The inspection was prompted by a public complaint, leading to an examination of the entire Eataly facility. While no rodent evidence was found, other vermin evidence was discovered on the third floor.
Terra was ordered to undergo a thorough cleaning, which included removing encrusted food from preparation surfaces, beneath equipment, and from floors and walls. Restaurant management reported that pest control services had been completed and that the establishment was being cleaned and sanitized, with potentially contaminated food being discarded.
The restaurant can request a reinspection once all outstanding issues are resolved. If the follow-up inspection is passed, Terra will be permitted to reopen. The first reinspection is offered free of charge, but subsequent visits to address the same issue may incur hourly fees.
