A family of six is accused of leaving a Sacramento seafood restaurant, Captain Crab, without paying a $500 bill. The incident, captured on surveillance footage Tuesday, has led the restaurant to initiate a referral to the Sacramento Police Department.
A manager at Captain Crab, who identified herself as Brandy, confirmed the alleged dine-and-dash and stated that the establishment is in the process of forwarding the case to law enforcement. The restaurant reportedly experiences such incidents approximately three to four times per month, often involving larger parties.
Captain Crab, which describes itself as a dining establishment "rich" in Cajun heritage with dishes inspired by traditional Louisiana recipes, has locations in Sacramento, Clovis, Elk Grove, and Stockton.
Following the incident, a video was shared online showing an individual, identified by the Instagram username datgurl_nanabee, allegedly bragging about the dine-and-dash. The individual reportedly stated that the act was not due to financial necessity, claiming to have ample funds. The same individual was reportedly seen in surveillance footage wearing the same attire as in an Instagram post.
It remains unclear if any charges have been filed. In California, defrauding an innkeeper, commonly known as dine-and-dash, is typically considered a misdemeanor offense if the value of the unpaid bill is under $950, according to legal experts.
