A tense situation unfolded on a California school bus when parents resorted to breaking into the vehicle and children began exiting through windows after the driver refused to allow them off the bus. The incident occurred on Monday on a Calaveras Unified school bus and lasted for approximately one hour.

The confrontation escalated when a student attempted to exit the bus by climbing through a window. According to a 12-year-old passenger, the driver then instructed all students to remain seated and close their windows while waiting for law enforcement to arrive. The driver reportedly stated that no one else would be allowed to leave until the police were present.

As parents learned of the situation, many gathered at the bus. Some children began contacting their parents, who then arrived at the scene. Nichole Wellington, whose son was on the bus, stated that she went to the driver and demanded her child be let off. She reported that the driver refused, leading her to give her son permission to climb out of a window.

Video footage from the scene captured children exiting the bus through open windows amidst the commotion. Wellington expressed that the situation could have been handled differently if the driver had released the children present with their parents.

Another parent, Rebecca Glover, who had two children on board, took a different approach. She instructed her children to stay seated and await resolution, believing the driver's priority was the safety of all students on the bus. Glover expressed concern about parents sending children to school expecting them to be parented rather than parenting them at home.

The Calaveras County Sheriff's Office responded to the disturbance. Deputies reported that a parent struck the bus door, causing the glass to break. The Sheriff's Office stated that the parent was taken into custody at the school district's request for vandalism. Authorities have not released the name of the arrested parent.
