California Man Charged with Murder After Falsely Claiming ICE Arrested His Wife
Authorities say Gurinder Gill told police his wife Jasmine Gill was taken by ICE agents, but her remains were later found buried, and the couple was in a divorce and custody dispute.
Gurinder Gill, 28, has been charged with the murder of his wife, Jasmine Gill, a 30-year-old nurse, after he allegedly told authorities that Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents arrested her when she went to retrieve the mail. Investigators discovered burned and buried remains, later identified as Jasmine Gill's, in neighboring El Dorado County, according to the Sacramento County Sheriff's Office.
The couple was reportedly going through a divorce and child custody dispute when Jasmine Gill was last seen on September 30. Her cousin reported her missing on October 4.
Sgt. Edward Igoe, a spokesperson for the sheriff's office, stated that detectives found inconsistencies in Gurinder Gill's account of his wife's disappearance. When detectives contacted ICE to verify Gurinder Gill's claim, ICE confirmed that no enforcement activity had occurred at the residence.
On October 1, investigators found the burned remains approximately 70 miles from the couple's Sacramento home. The remains were confirmed to be Jasmine Gill's.
Gurinder Gill was arrested on October 14, and search warrants were executed at two properties associated with him. He is not eligible for bail.
According to a GoFundMe campaign created for Jasmine Gill's family, she was born in India and worked as a nurse. The campaign aims to raise funds to return her remains to her mother in India and to support her 8-month-old child. The campaign description states that Jasmine Gill was seeking a divorce and a better future for herself and her baby.
