A California man is wanted on an arrest warrant after being charged with 12 misdemeanor counts of invasion of privacy for allegedly secretly recording dozens of women in a Planet Fitness tanning booth. Kyle Combs, 40, of Grover Beach, is accused of filming at least 47 partially or fully nude women inside tanning booths at an Arroyo Grande gym between July and December 2025.
San Luis Obispo District Attorney Dan Dow stated that the alleged secret recordings represent a "deeply disturbing violation of privacy, dignity, and personal security." He added, "People using a gym or fitness center should never have to fear that they are being watched or recorded in one of their most private moments."
Eight women have filed lawsuits against Combs and Planet Fitness, with one complaint alleging that Combs picked locks to access tanning booths and inserted his phone to capture footage. As of Saturday afternoon, Combs had not been arrested, though a judge has set his bail at $50,000.
District Attorney Dow explained that Combs was charged with misdemeanors due to current California law. "Readers may be justifiably disturbed to learn that, under current California law, allegations involving secretly recording multiple nude victims in private tanning booths are generally chargeable only as misdemeanors unless additional circumstances exist," Dow said. He urged the public to contact their state representatives to advocate for legislative changes.
The District Attorney's office believes there may be additional victims, but due to the statute of limitations, those incidents cannot be prosecuted. The Daily Mail has reached out to Combs and Planet Fitness for comment.
