Residents in several Southern California communities can receive free rides home on July 4th, thanks to a program sponsored by the Walter Clark Legal Group. The initiative, now in its second decade, is designed to curb drunk driving by offering reimbursements for rides taken on the evening of Independence Day.
The Safe Ride Program will cover up to $50 for eligible Lyft or taxi rides taken between 10 p.m. on July 4th and 3 a.m. on July 5th. The program targets individuals who may have consumed alcohol and are considering driving, encouraging them to make a safer choice. Walter Clark, founder of the law firm, stated that impairment can lead individuals to believe they are fit to drive when they are not.
The offer is valid for one reimbursement per household per day and applies to rides taken within specific Coachella Valley cities, including Palm Springs, Palm Desert, Coachella, Rancho Mirage, Cathedral City, Desert Hot Springs, Indian Wells, La Quinta, Bermuda Dunes, Victorville, El Centro, Banning, and Yucca Valley, Morongo Valley. Drivers must be 21 years of age or older and possess a valid driver's license.
This program has been a long-standing effort by the firm to enhance road safety during holidays like the Fourth of July, a period often associated with increased accident rates due to celebrations and impaired driving.
