California K-9 Helps Police Seize 440 Pounds of Cocaine in Traffic Stop

A traffic stop in Alhambra, California, resulted in the seizure of approximately 440 pounds of cocaine, thanks to the keen senses of a police K-9 named Otis. The incident occurred when officers initiated a traffic stop on Valley Boulevard near the 710 Freeway.

Authorities noted that the driver was transporting an unusually large quantity of cardboard boxes. The driver offered conflicting explanations for the cargo. Initially, he stated he was returning from a cousin's house and that the boxes were not his. He later changed his story, claiming he was delivering diesel parts to a friend's shop.

K-9 Otis and his handler were brought in to investigate. Otis alerted officers to the vehicle, leading to the discovery of the cocaine packed inside the SUV. The driver, identified as Julio Rangel of Huntington Park, was arrested and taken to the Alhambra Police Department jail.

Alhambra police praised Otis on social media for his role in the drug bust, humorously noting he deserved an "a-paws." Social media users also lauded the K-9's effectiveness, with some suggesting he deserved a promotion or a celebratory steak dinner. The seizure represents a significant bust for local law enforcement.
