A Los Angeles-based healthcare provider, 24 Hour Home Care, announced it will permanently lay off 738 employees. The company, which offers daily living and personal care support for veterans and individuals with disabilities, cited an insurance provider's decision to eliminate services as the cause for the cuts.

The affected employees will be let go on September 15. The layoffs stem from Health Net's plan to eliminate Personal Care and Homemaker Services (PCHS) beginning January 1, 2027. "We are disappointed by Health Net’s decision and recognize the uncertainty it creates for affected members, caregivers and their families," a spokesperson for 24 Hour Home Care stated.

The company employs approximately 30,000 caregivers across California. This development follows a series of recent job reductions within the state's healthcare sector.

In late August, Stanford Health Care announced layoffs affecting 95 individuals, primarily in non-clinical information technology and digital health roles. John Muir Health announced on September 1 plans to cut 75 positions across multiple locations. Earlier in March, the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health closed clinical services at seven locations due to a $50 million funding deficit. Also in March, UC Irvine Health reduced its workforce by 150 positions as part of a systemwide "strategic restructuring."
