California Father Arrested in Mexico for Alleged Abuse of 14-Year-Old Daughter; Infant Found Dead

A 14-year-old California girl has been rescued in Mexico, and her father arrested, weeks after authorities allege he sexually abused and impregnated her. The girl's infant daughter was discovered dead by the side of a road.

The rescue operation, involving Mexican law enforcement, the FBI, and Monterey County investigators, located the teenager and her father, 38-year-old Sergio Galvez Perez, in Mexico. Perez was arrested during the operation after authorities reportedly found him in possession of narcotics.

The case began on August 1, when emergency crews responded to a report of an infant found beside the roadway in north Monterey County. The newborn, identified by investigators as 'Baby Angelita,' was pronounced dead at the scene. A forensic examination later revealed signs of traumatic injury to the infant.

Investigators subsequently identified Perez and his teenage daughter in connection with the infant's death. Initially, an arrest warrant was obtained for the girl on suspicion of murder. Perez was sought on allegations including incest, sexual offenses involving a child, unlawful sexual intercourse, child concealment, and child endangerment.

Monterey County prosecutors later clarified that the teenager was not being charged and is considered a victim. The District Attorney’s Office stated, "We recognize that the 14-year-old is a victim of her father’s abuse. No child should ever have to endure such horrific circumstances."

The teenager's mother, Ofelia Garcia Ortega, 36, was previously arrested on suspicion of child endangerment. She has since been released on bail, and charges against her are under review.

Authorities had issued an Amber Alert for the missing girl, believing Perez was concealing her. His suspected getaway vehicle was later recovered in Monterey County. The breakthrough in locating the pair came through the joint operation in Mexico.

Perez faces multiple felony charges in California, including incest, lewd or lascivious acts involving a child, unlawful sexual intercourse, child concealment, and child endangerment. The criminal complaint alleges the sexual abuse occurred between November 2025 and April 2026, when the girl was under 14. The child abuse charge further alleges that Perez caused or permitted her to suffer physical and mental harm and endangered her health and safety.

Authorities have not filed homicide charges against Perez in connection with the infant's death, as that investigation remains active. The circumstances surrounding the infant's death, beyond the presence of traumatic injuries, have not been publicly detailed.

Sergio Galvez Perez is also known as a Mixtec musician who performs under the name 'El Aguila Real y su Ritmo Sabroso.'

The Monterey County Sheriff's Office is expected to hold a news conference at a later date to provide further details on the rescue and the ongoing investigation.
