A driver intentionally drove his car off a cliff in Fresno County on Thursday afternoon following a heated argument with his girlfriend, during which he reportedly threatened suicide. The incident occurred around 4:15 p.m. near Sky Harbour Drive and Millerton Road.

The Fresno County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that the driver was on the phone with his partner when the event transpired. Following the crash, the girlfriend contacted 911, enabling rescuers to locate the driver via helicopter. He was subsequently airlifted to Community Regional Medical Center for treatment. His current condition has not been released.

Authorities are still investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash, and it remains unclear if drugs or alcohol played a role.

This incident occurred several weeks after a separate fatal crash near Millerton Lake, approximately a few miles away. That collision involved a teenage driver who allegedly ran a stop sign, resulting in a collision that claimed the lives of two elderly women. In that crash, an 18-year-old driver collided with a vehicle carrying three passengers, including an 88-year-old woman. A second fatality, 94-year-old Nellie Moreno, was a passenger in the other vehicle. Both victims died from their injuries.
