Sheriff’s deputies opened fire on a man in Chino Hills, California, on Wednesday night after discovering a dead body in the trunk of his Nissan Altima, which was flagged with Oregon plates.

The incident occurred in the 2400 block of Wandering Ridge Drive. According to a Chino Hills Police Department Instagram post, no deputies were injured.

Footage from the scene showed deputies stopping the vehicle. A passenger exited the car and approached the deputies with their hands raised. The driver, however, remained in the vehicle, exhibiting unusual behavior before opening and closing the car door and allowing the vehicle to roll forward slightly. The driver then exited the car with hands raised, but reportedly returned to the vehicle to retrieve something before opening the trunk.

It was at this point that deputies discharged their firearms, as seen in the footage. The driver and passenger were observed ducking to the ground.

The investigation is ongoing, and law enforcement presence is expected to continue in the area. Authorities stated there are no outstanding suspects and no known ongoing threat to the community. Additional information will be released as it becomes available.
