A California couple has been arrested in Mexico on homicide charges for the fatal beating of a Clovis teacher that occurred more than eight months ago. The U.S. Marshals apprehended Antonio Garcia, 40, of Tulare, and Misty Gomez, 32, of Dinuba, after they were found to be living in Mexico.
Geoffrey Bernardi, 37, a teacher at the Clovis Unified School District, was attacked on December 18, 2025, near a canal in Clovis. He died two days later from his injuries. Investigators determined that the attack was not random and identified Garcia and Gomez as persons of interest. Evidence indicated that Gomez had been dating Bernardi at the time of the attack, despite being married to Garcia.
Bernardi’s mother, Erin Adams, stated that her son met Gomez online and was unaware she was married. She described Gomez as an "accomplished liar." Investigators reported that Gomez was the sole witness to the attack and initially described the assailant as wearing a black puffer jacket with a hoodie.
Following Bernardi's death, Gomez reportedly fled to Mexico with her two children from a previous relationship. The children, Skye Mason, 9, and Castiel Hernandez, 12, had been missing from Dinuba since April. The children are currently in the custody of DIF in Michoacan, Mexico, and will be reunited with family with the assistance of Child Protective Services.
Garcia and Gomez were extradited to the United States last week. They were booked into Santa Rita Jail in Alameda County on $1 million bail before being transported to Fresno. Both are facing murder charges.
