Santa Rosa Junior College wrestler Ryan George, 19, died over the weekend after a fall while hiking with friends in Yosemite National Park. The incident occurred near Illilouette Falls.
George was a decorated athlete for Santa Rosa Junior College. In his freshman season last year, he earned All-American honors and secured third place in the California Community College Athletic Association tournament. He had recently competed in the Dave Pacheco Invitational in Sacramento just two days prior to the accident.
His wrestling coach, Fred Duerr, described George as "one of the most genuine, positive people you could ever meet," adding that he had a way of making everyone feel welcome and bringing out the best in those around him.
