The WNBA has overturned a technical foul assessed to Caitlin Clark, rescinding the one-game suspension that would have followed. The Indiana Fever star received her eighth technical foul of the season during Saturday's matchup against the Chicago Sky.
The incident occurred in the third quarter when Clark was driving to the basket and made contact with official Genesis Perrymond after a defender, Natasha Cloud, blocked her path. Perrymond called a technical foul on Clark for the contact.
Fever coach Stephanie White received a technical foul herself for her reaction to the call. "My tech was for saying that's bulls***," White told reporters after the game. "Even though I heard the F-bomb the whole fing game. My tech was for saying that's bulls." White described Clark's foul as a "bad call" and "incidental contact when you're flying out of control," adding that officials need "some awareness in those moments."
On the ABC broadcast, reporter Holly Rowe stated the foul was called due to "extra contact with Caitlin's forearm." Clark, when asked about the technical after the game, expressed hope for its rescission. "She said I ran into her, I've already watched it on tape," Clark said. "So, we'll let the league decide, but it wasn't intentional or anything. So I'm hoping it's getting rescinded."
Despite the controversy, Clark contributed significantly to the Fever's 90-86 victory over the Sky, recording 26 points, four rebounds, and 11 assists. Teammate Kelsey Mitchell led the team with 27 points.
