Caitlin Clark and Candace Parker Share Postgame Hug After On-Court Interaction
A spirited exchange during the WNBA playoffs concluded with a friendly embrace between the Indiana Fever star and the broadcaster.
Tension appeared to briefly surface between Indiana Fever guard Caitlin Clark and WNBA legend Candace Parker during Game 2 of the playoffs on Tuesday night, but the interaction concluded with a warm postgame hug.
During the fourth quarter of the Fever's 99-89 victory over the Las Vegas Aces, Clark made a pull-up three-pointer over A'ja Wilson, extending Indiana's lead to 11 points. While celebrating the shot, Clark turned towards the Amazon Prime broadcast table and appeared to direct a comment toward Parker. LaChina Robinson, another broadcaster, asked Parker what Clark had said. Parker responded that she did not know, but acknowledged it must have been something that "hyped her up."
Following the game, Clark sought out Parker, and the two shared a hug. Clark later explained to Parker that she had "blacked out" and, in a moment of excitement, had said, "F-k you think this was?"
Initially, some observers speculated that Clark's gesture might have been a reaction to criticism from Parker earlier in the game. In the first quarter, Parker commented on Clark's play after a missed call from officials. Following a play where Clark appeared to be seeking a foul call rather than immediately returning to defense after a missed offensive opportunity, Parker stated, "You've got to get back on defense, Caitlin. This is the playoffs. Baskets matter. You can talk to the refs after the game, but you have to get back and stop the run. This is what Vegas depends on, live ball turnovers and long rebounds."
Clark, who has been vocal in her appeals to officials throughout her career, received her first technical foul of the postseason in the second quarter of Game 2 for an offensive foul. During the regular season, she narrowly avoided an automatic suspension, finishing with six technical fouls.
The Indiana Fever evened their playoff series against the Aces with the Game 2 win. The series will now shift to Las Vegas for Game 3 on Thursday night. Clark averaged 22.3 points and 8.3 assists per game during the regular season.
