C.J. Gardner-Johnson's Suspension Upheld for Spitting Incident

The NFL announced Thursday that Buffalo Bills safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson's one-game suspension for spitting at an opponent has been upheld.

Gardner-Johnson will miss the Bills' Week 8 game against the Baltimore Ravens. The suspension stems from an incident during a game against the Las Vegas Raiders on Oct. 18, where Gardner-Johnson was ejected for spitting toward Raiders center Tyler Linderbaum and tight end Brock Bowers just before halftime.

Bills head coach Joe Brady described Gardner-Johnson's actions as "inexcusable" and "not the standard that we're going to have and play with." Brady added that while the team wants to "toe the line in everything we do," they "can't cross the line."

Gardner-Johnson acknowledged that he needed to better control his emotions and stated he would accept the consequences.

This is not the only recent disciplinary issue for the Bills' secondary involving spitting. Safety Sam Franklin Jr. also received a suspension for spitting toward a player during the same game. Franklin, however, denied the allegations on social media, stating he would defend himself but would not spit on anyone.

Despite the suspension, Brady indicated that Gardner-Johnson would remain in the starting lineup upon his return in Week 9.
