Myles Trainor, a 41-year-old property developer and father of two sons, has died in Byron Bay, sending shockwaves through the tight-knit coastal community. Trainor was notably known for selling his family's waterfront estate on Belongil Beach to pub baron Justin Hemmes for $22 million in 2023.
Working alongside his brother, Trainor was involved in several property ventures, including acquisitions in Wategos Beach and Bondi Beach. In Sydney's east, the brothers purchased a dilapidated duplex for approximately $4 million, renovated it, and subsequently sold it for nearly $8 million. He also contributed to the high-end property development company Gene and the luxury short-term rental property Palma House in Byron Bay.
The cause of Trainor's death, which occurred last Friday, has not been publicly disclosed. However, numerous tributes have flooded social media from prominent members of the Byron Bay community.
His close friend, model and influencer Ruby Tuesday Matthews, who is the godmother to Trainor's daughter, Holiday, shared a heartfelt tribute on Instagram. Matthews expressed her profound grief and alluded to a personal regret about not making contact more frequently in Trainor's final weeks. "I wish I'd picked up the phone one more time. Life got busy like it always does, and I know we both understood that, but I'd give anything for one more conversation," she wrote.
Matthews recalled their shared Christmases and birthdays, emphasizing the joy of witnessing Trainor become a father. "Seeing how much your boys adored you was one of the greatest gifts," she stated, promising to ensure Trainor's sons always knew how deeply loved their father was.
Friends and acquaintances shared memories on Facebook, with one childhood friend thanking Trainor for his mentorship, support, and for teaching them to embrace life and step outside their comfort zone. Another described Trainor as a "genuine part" of Byron Bay's recent history, characterizing him as quiet and unassuming.
Trainor's death follows the passing of restaurateur Kim Stephen seven months prior. Stephen, a co-founder of Arcade Agency Hospitality, was known for restaurants like Light Years and Pixie. His death was also described as sudden, with reports indicating his family made the decision to turn off his life support. Leonie Hemsworth, mother of Chris and Liam Hemsworth, paid tribute to Stephen, calling him a beloved, kind, and witty member of the Byron Bay community.
