A wildfire, named the Buzzard Fire, ignited Wednesday morning near Tejon Pass in Kern County, California, quickly growing and prompting evacuation warnings for the surrounding area.
The fire was first reported around 8:29 a.m. and rapidly expanded from 30 acres to 180 acres within two hours. The Kern County Fire Department has issued an evacuation warning for areas north of Lebec Road along the I-5 freeway.
Officials with the Kern County Sheriff’s Office advised residents to prepare for potential evacuation, emphasizing the rapidly changing nature of the situation. Reduced visibility and potential road blockages were cited as reasons for the warning. Authorities urged those who might require additional time to evacuate to leave immediately.
The blaze began as a vegetation fire, and its cause is currently under investigation. No information regarding containment efforts or full evacuation orders has been released.
