James Bourne, the 43-year-old singer for the band Busted, has received a kidney transplant from his younger brother, Chris. Both are recovering from the surgery, with Chris, 33, sharing a positive update on social media.

Chris posted a throwback childhood photo on his Instagram with the caption, "When you find out that everything’s going to be ok." This post came days after the transplant surgery.

Bourne revealed the news of the transplant on his Spotify account, stating that his condition was serious and doctors had given him "a few years to live." He referred to his brother as a "hero" for donating a kidney, which he described as having "saved my life yet again. This time quite literally."

"I can't believe how much better I'm starting to feel already," Bourne wrote. "I'm still going to need some time, but I wanted you to know that we're both recovering from surgery just fine. My brother is a hero." He later added a post on X, "Health update. I’m still alive and kicking and it’s all thanks to my brother."

Bourne had previously kept details about his condition private, but he announced in September that he was awaiting "life-extending" surgery. He withdrew from Busted's tour with McFly last year due to health reasons, prompting concern from his bandmates Charlie Simpson and Matt Willis, who described him as "really f****** sick."

In a statement at the time, Bourne explained his decision to pull out of the tour, stating, "There's a lot of information I still don't have about my condition but my bandmates, management and I are unanimous in deciding that I should focus on the medical stuff for now." He expressed hope of returning to performing "further down the line."
