Owen Williams, owner of a bar in Liverpool, has implemented a policy of not hiring young individuals whose parents apply for jobs on their behalf. Williams reported an increase in the past year of parents contacting the bar via email and messaging services to inquire about employment for their children.

He described the situation as "catastrophic" and noted that young people should independently offer their CVs and engage with businesses, particularly independent establishments. Williams suggested that some young people who grew up during the COVID-19 pandemic may have experienced a decline in confidence.

Rushid Afzali from the Be Free Campaign in Liverpool acknowledged that parents naturally want to support their children in finding employment, especially in a challenging job market. However, he stated that the issue is not a lack of motivation among young people and cautioned against placing blame on them. Afzali emphasized that parents are often concerned when job prospects are scarce and that their support is a natural response.
