A bus driver sustained serious injuries after the vehicle collided with a rail bridge support in Port Adelaide on Tuesday morning, trapping him in the wreckage. Emergency services were dispatched to the scene on Commercial Road at Baynes Place shortly after 8:30 a.m.

Crews worked for more than an hour to extricate the 37-year-old driver from the vehicle. He was subsequently transported to a hospital in serious but stable condition. A 28-year-old female passenger also required hospitalization for injuries that were not life-threatening. Three other passengers received treatment at the scene.

Witnesses reported hearing a loud impact as the bus struck the bridge during the morning commute. Authorities have implemented road closures on Commercial Road between Grand Junction Road and Dale Street, advising motorists to seek alternative routes. The incident is expected to cause significant traffic disruptions as emergency services continue their work and investigations.

A South Australia Police spokesperson confirmed that an investigation into the cause of the crash is ongoing.
