Bulls Acquire Buddy Hield in Trade with Hornets
Chicago sends guard Rob Dillingham to Charlotte for veteran shooter Hield and cash.
The Chicago Bulls have acquired veteran sharpshooter Buddy Hield from the Charlotte Hornets in a trade that sends guard Rob Dillingham to Charlotte along with cash, ESPN reported Saturday.
The move comes weeks before the NBA season is set to begin and represents a significant roster shake-up for the Bulls.
Dillingham, 21, played 30 games for the Bulls last season after being acquired from the Timberwolves at the trade deadline. The No. 8 pick in the 2024 NBA draft, he averaged 9.6 points and 2.8 assists on 42.8 percent shooting in 21.5 minutes per game during his time with Chicago. Dillingham has one year remaining on his rookie contract, with a team option for the 2028 offseason.
Hield, 33, enters his 11th NBA season. He was previously with the Golden State Warriors before being traded to the Atlanta Hawks in February. In 51 games combined for the Warriors and Hawks last season, Hield averaged 7.6 points and made 1.5 three-pointers on 34.9 percent shooting from beyond the arc. Hield holds a player option worth approximately $10 million for the 2027-28 season.
The Hornets recently traded All-Star guard LaMelo Ball to the Timberwolves. With second-year player Kon Knueppel sidelined due to a hamstring injury, Dillingham could see an increased role in Charlotte.
