A 25-year-old bull rider sustained injuries after being bucked off a bull and then trampled during a rodeo event in the Bronx on Sunday. The incident occurred during a sanctioned rodeo on Bruner Avenue in Baychester, according to the NYPD.
Video footage from the event shows the rider being thrown from the bull and appearing to lose consciousness. His foot remained caught in the stirrup, leaving him vulnerable as the bull trampled and dragged him across the dirt. Onlookers shouted in alarm as organizers rushed into the pen to assist.
The rider was eventually freed and carried off the arena floor, receiving attention from bystanders. He was transported to a local hospital in stable condition, police reported. Witnesses described the rider as appearing to be bleeding and briefly unconscious following the incident.
Fellow bull rider Gato described the event, stating, "He was hit pretty hard. He was doing his thing on the bull, but he got caught up in the spins, man, and he got hit on top, threw down, stepped on, got unconscious." Audience member Osvaldo Sanchez noted that while the event was shocking, the risks of injury are inherent in bull riding. "There were a lot of young kids also obviously witnessed this, and they were also like worried about what has happened," Sanchez said. "I already had experience of all of that, so I was really used to it."
