Bull Moose Rescued After Getting Stuck in Montana Skate Park
Wildlife officials tranquilized and relocated the animal after it became trapped in a concrete bowl in Red Lodge.
A large bull moose found itself in an unusual predicament Wednesday morning when it became stuck in the concrete bowl of a skate park in Red Lodge, Montana. The animal's presence drew a crowd of curious onlookers and prompted a response from local authorities and wildlife crews.
Residents noticed emergency lights and first responders at the skate park and initially assumed an accident had occurred. Upon discovering the large moose trapped in the bowl, they realized the commotion was due to the wildlife rescue.
Attempts to help the moose exit the park on its own were unsuccessful. Wildlife officials, alongside the Carbon County Sheriff's Office, Red Lodge Fire Rescue, and Red Lodge Police, determined that tranquilization was necessary for the animal's safe removal. The moose, believed to be a local animal known to frequent the town, was subsequently relocated outside of Red Lodge.
"We’ve seen a lot of animals in town, never a moose in the bottom of a skate park," said resident Steve Langlas, who watched the operation. "The moose is around. It’s kind of known as our local moose," added another resident, Sam Merrick. "We’re all looking for a safe resolve to the whole situation because he is the town moose."
