Bulgarians Vote Amid Economic Woes and War Concerns

Bulgarians headed to the polls Sunday to elect their next president, with the campaign heavily influenced by growing economic hardship and concerns over drone attacks on Black Sea shipping.

The vote represents a significant early test for Prime Minister Rumen Radev's Moscow-friendly Progressive Bulgaria party, which secured an electoral victory in April.

Despite a large field of candidates, the presidential race is anticipated to proceed to a runoff election. The contest is largely expected to feature incumbent President Iliana Yotova, who has the backing of Radev's party, and former caretaker Prime Minister Andrey Gyurov, supported by pro-Western opposition groups.
