Buckingham Palace Staff Undergo Alcohol Awareness Training
Royal household employees participated in sessions focused on mindful drinking and handling colleagues under the influence.
Staff members at Buckingham Palace have received alcohol awareness training, including guidance on managing colleagues who may be under the influence of alcohol and recognizing 'grey area drinking.' The educational sessions were conducted by consultants from Alcohol Change UK, a charity that provides workplace seminars.
According to Richard Piper, the chief executive of Alcohol Change UK, the royal household was among the organizations that requested these educational sessions. He stated that the training aims to promote healthier workplace policies and ensure inclusivity, noting that a significant portion of the population does not consume alcohol. The sessions also address safeguarding issues related to alcohol in the workplace.
The training reportedly took place several years ago as part of broader wellbeing initiatives organized by the royal household's human resources department. This initiative followed an incident in 2024 where a palace maid was arrested after a staff Christmas party at a bar ended in a disturbance. Reports indicated that the employee allegedly became aggressive, throwing glasses and throwing a punch at a manager.
Buckingham Palace has not officially commented on the matter, but the training highlights an effort to address alcohol-related issues within the royal staff.
