Bubba Wallace Leaves NASCAR Race by Ambulance After Major Crash

Bubba Wallace exited his vehicle and boarded an ambulance after a frightening wreck during Sunday's Bank of America 400 at Charlotte Motor Speedway. The 23XI Racing driver was on the outside of a turn on lap 77 when rival Alex Bowman lost control of his No. 48 car, initiating a multi-car incident that sent both Wallace's No. 23 and Bowman's car spinning.

USA Network commentators expressed concern as the rear right side of Wallace's car sustained two impacts in quick succession while bouncing between walls. "There's already damage, a secondary hit to the same area of the right rear that's already been crushed," said USA's Steve Letarte. "You know that car is designed with some crushing space. Well, he kind of used that up in the first hit."

Wallace was able to walk from his car to the waiting ambulance and later told reporters he was unharmed. "No warning," he said. "Seen it in the last second… No hard feelings… He just got loose and got us." When asked how he was doing, Wallace responded, "Still got nine fingers and nine toes, so we're good."

Alex Bowman took responsibility for the incident. "I just got loose and way overcorrected," he told NASCAR reporter Alan Cavanna. "Definitely caught me off-guard, I don't understand why we got loose. It just snapped and I did a s*** job hanging onto it and ruined two other guys' days." Bowman's crash also impacted William Byron.

Wallace entered the race having secured three consecutive top-10 finishes and was running in fifth place at the time of the crash. Byron, who was 12th in the championship standings coming into the race, finished 39th, potentially impacting his title hopes for 2026. Wallace was in 10th place in the standings prior to the event.
