Bryson DeChambeau Remains Committed to LIV Golf Amid League's Restructuring
Despite bankruptcy filings and player departures, the golf star is reportedly working behind the scenes to support LIV 2.0.
Bryson DeChambeau, a prominent figure in professional golf, is reportedly committed to LIV Golf and actively involved in efforts to revive the league as LIV 2.0. This comes at a critical juncture for the organization, which filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in September and is seeking new investment to launch an revamped circuit in 2027.
DeChambeau, a two-time U.S. Open champion, has become one of the faces of LIV Golf since its inception. Despite the league facing significant turmoil, including the withdrawal of funding from Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund earlier this year, DeChambeau's continued allegiance signals a potential foundation for LIV's future.
The league's path forward was further complicated by a number of high-profile player departures. Notably, Jon Rahm, a major draw for the league, has indicated he will not participate in LIV 2.0 due to unacceptable contract terms. Louis Oosthuizen, a former British Open winner, also announced his decision to leave LIV and return to the DP World Tour.
As part of the bankruptcy proceedings, a judge has permitted LIV Golf to reject contracts with 19 golfers, a list that included DeChambeau's. However, reports suggest he is still engaged in behind-the-scenes work to support the league's restructuring efforts. DeChambeau's popularity, amplified by his engaging presence on social media platforms and his YouTube channel, has appealed to a younger demographic within the sport.
LIV Golf is reportedly in discussions with investment firm BC Partners for a potential $300 million investment, which would include an initial loan to sustain operations during the bankruptcy process. Attorneys for LIV Golf have indicated that a decision regarding the continuation of LIV 2.0 or a potential wind-down of operations is expected by the end of October.
