Bruce Springsteen made a surprise appearance at Steven Van Zandt’s inaugural TeachRock Teachers Hall of Fame Gala in New Jersey on Saturday. The event honored educators and featured a star-studded lineup of musicians and comedians.
Joining Springsteen were E Street Band bandmate Jon Bon Jovi, comedian Pete Davidson, Rage Against the Machine guitarist Tom Morello, and the band Kool & the Gang. Davidson served as the master of ceremonies for the gala, which drew 1,500 guests. Bon Jovi was on hand to induct Van Zandt into the Count Basie Center Walk of Fame.
Tom Morello’s mother, Mary Morello, a notable educator and activist who founded Parents for Rock and Rap in 1987, was honored at the gala. Tom Morello himself received the Lifetime Achievement Award. Mary Morello passed away earlier this year at the age of 102.
This event marks Van Zandt’s first Teachers Hall of Fame Gala. Previously, the E Street Band guitarist and actor, known for his role in “The Sopranos,” was reported to be working on screenplays set in New Jersey. He made these comments at another Garden State event held at the Bruce Springsteen Center For American Music in Long Branch.
