Bruce Blakeman Calls Marriage of Ex-Wife to Paul McCartney 'Surreal'

Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman has described the marriage of his ex-wife, Nancy Shevell, to Paul McCartney as "surreal," but indicated that he has a cordial relationship with the former Beatle. Blakeman made the comments in a recent interview on an NY 1 podcast, acknowledging the unusual circumstances of his ex-wife marrying a globally recognized music icon.

Blakeman, a Republican gubernatorial candidate, stated that McCartney is a "nice guy" and a good stepfather to his son, Arlen. "It’s a little surrealistic that your ex-wife is married to a Beatle. I’m not going to lie," Blakeman said. He added that while their political views likely differ, they do not discuss politics. McCartney, 84, is known for his climate change activism and has been critical of former President Trump, who Blakeman has supported.

Blakeman, 70, was married to Shevell, 66, for over two decades. He stated that they had an amicable divorce and that he wishes her well. He is now remarried to Nassau County Family Court Judge Segal Blakeman, whom he described as a "great woman" and "smart and beautiful." He also mentioned he has two stepchildren from his current marriage and three grandchildren.

Shevell, an heiress and former Metropolitan Transportation Authority board member, married McCartney in 2011. Blakeman's current wife, Segal Blakeman, has provided him with two additional children, expanding his family.

Bruce Blakeman, Nassau County executive and Republican gubernatorial candidate for New York, center, speaks during a campaign event in Howard Beach in New York City, Tuesday, Sept. 15, 2026.
