Browns favored over Steelers in Week 8 matchup as oddsmakers see close contest

The Cleveland Browns are favored by 3.5 points over the Pittsburgh Steelers in their upcoming Week 8 matchup, a prediction that challenges preseason expectations and historical trends. Sports betting writer Dylan Svoboda of The New York Post suggests that the current odds do not fully reflect the evenness of the two teams.

In their last meeting on October 1, the Browns defeated the Steelers 27-24 in Cleveland. The scoreline, however, did not fully convey the defensive pressure Cleveland applied to Pittsburgh's offense, including five sacks and two interceptions. The Steelers' reliance on passing, which ranks as the second-highest rate in the NFL this season at 64.2 percent, could be a vulnerability against a Browns defense adept at pressuring quarterbacks.

Pittsburgh's offense has shown recent struggles, managing only 16 points in their win against the Saints in Paris. The team is now returning from an international trip to face a division rival.

Cleveland's offense has experienced inconsistency, but recent performance offers some optimism. Quarterback Deshaun Watson led a 491-yard offensive output against Tennessee, culminating in a late drive that secured a winning field goal. Despite Cleveland's lack of regular-season wins in Pittsburgh since 2003, the current spread of over a field goal is considered too generous to pass up.

Svoboda, in his third season with The Post's NFL Bettor's Guide, holds a 2-5 record for the current season. He is known for his analysis across multiple sports, with particular expertise in baseball, the NFL, and the NBA.
