Stylists note that brown shoes, in shades like espresso, chestnut, and chocolate, provide a warmer color palette that complements the transition from summer.
"Brown flats are having a major moment right now because they’re effortlessly chic," celebrity stylist Jazmin Whitley told the New York Post. "Reaching for a brown shoe feels slightly less predictable than black and instantly elevates the overall look." Whitley added that brown flats are ideal for making everyday outfits feel more polished as temperatures drop.
Elana Fishman, Page Six Style & Shopping Director, also expressed enthusiasm for the trend, highlighting the warmth that brown flats bring to an outfit. She suggests pairing them with other earth tones such as camel and beige, or embracing autumnal colors like maroon, hunter green, or mustard. Fishman also stated that a brown shoe can be effectively paired with a black outfit and vice versa.
Celebrity sightings support the trend. Julia Roberts was recently seen wearing mocha glove flats with a striped polo and jeans. Catherine, Princess of Wales, wore brown suede flats with a plaid blazer, and Katie Holmes was photographed in dark chestnut Mary Janes with jeans and a white top.
