Brothers Reconnect Via Video Call After Four Decades Apart
A county veterans service office facilitated the reunion between siblings separated by nearly 3,000 miles.

Two veteran brothers, separated by nearly 3,000 miles, were able to see each other face-to-face for the first time in 40 years through a video call organized by the Placer County Veterans Service Office in Northern California.
One brother resides in Grass Valley, California, while the other lives in eastern Connecticut. Although they have maintained contact by phone throughout the decades, Thursday marked their first visual reunion.
The Placer County Veterans Service Office, which provides counseling, education, benefits assistance, and advocacy for veterans and their families, arranged the emotional video conference. This initiative aims to improve the mental well-being of both veterans.
Steve Johnson, a Veterans Service Officer for Placer County, told KCRA3 that the office is now collaborating with a nonprofit organization to help establish consistent internet access and provide tablets for the brothers. This will enable them to connect more frequently and regularly.
"I can’t imagine that it’s a great feeling not to be able to see your family for such a long time," Johnson stated, emphasizing the importance of familial connection.
