Alisa Goods, a 63-year-old grandmother from Brooklyn, has been found dead near Harry Reid International Airport in Las Vegas, nearly two weeks after she was reported missing. Goods was last seen on Aug. 8 leaving a friend's apartment near the Las Vegas Strip to go shopping at a CVS pharmacy.
Authorities responded to the airport area around 1:45 a.m. Thursday after a body was discovered. Surveillance footage from the day she disappeared reportedly shows a woman believed to be Goods near the airport that afternoon. The cause of death has not yet been released by police, and details regarding how she ended up at the airport remain unclear, leaving her family in distress.
"Our hearts are broken. We were notified that my aunt was found—unfortunately, not the way we wanted her to be," Goods' niece, Alana Calloway, said in a statement. "This is an unimaginable time. Words cannot describe the pain our family is experiencing right now."
Goods, a mother of five, was visiting a friend of 20 years, Roger John, who is not considered a suspect in her disappearance. He assisted in the search efforts by distributing flyers. Family members noted that Goods had recently undergone surgeries on her legs, which would have made extensive travel on foot difficult.
Concerns grew after Goods' disconnected cell phone began sending messages soliciting money and eventually Bitcoin. Her daughter, Kristin, traveled from New Jersey to Las Vegas in an effort to locate her mother, checking local hospitals and morgues.
