The "Rodeo Tierra Caliente" event held in the Bronx on Sunday, where a bull rider was injured after being thrown and trampled, did not have the required permit from the New York City Health Department, according to a report. New York City requires permits for rodeos, which are issued by the Commissioner of Health.
The incident occurred when a 25-year-old bull rider was bucked off his animal, then trampled and dragged across the ground. Video footage showed witnesses rushing to assist the rider, who was reportedly briefly unconscious and bleeding.
"He was hit pretty hard. He was doing his thing on the bull, but he got caught up in the spins, man, and he got hit on top, threw down, stepped on, got unconscious," a fellow bull rider identified as Gato told reporters. Off-duty EMT Melanie Ayala told News12 that an announcer urged attendees to stop filming the aftermath.
The injured rider was transported to Jacobi Medical Center and is expected to recover. The bull was also secured. Rodeo Tierra Caliente describes itself as a leading company for Mexican-style rodeos across the United States.
