A Bronx bicyclist was killed Tuesday night after being struck by a driver reportedly traveling at 100 miles per hour, according to police and reports. Angelo Camera, 51, was crossing Bruckner Boulevard at Longwood Avenue in the South Bronx around 9:30 p.m. when a BMW M550i allegedly ran a red light and hit him.

Camera had spoken to his wife, Vilmary Martinez, just minutes before the crash, telling her he was about 10 minutes away from home. "I told him I needed something, and he said, ‘I’ll be there in 10 minutes, babe,’" Martinez told the Daily News.

The driver of the BMW fled the scene after striking Camera. Police believe the driver was traveling at approximately 100 miles per hour at the time of the collision. The BMW also struck two parked cars, a 2012 Camaro and a 2017 Lexus, before continuing to flee.

Further down Lafayette Avenue, the BMW driver allegedly struck a 2009 Hyundai Sonata, which was stopped at a red light. The driver of the Hyundai, a 37-year-old woman, was injured. The BMW then sideswiped a 2019 Volkswagen, sending debris into a 2005 Chevy Explorer.

Several vehicles were also struck by the BMW driver as he attempted to flee the scene.

After the series of collisions, the driver abandoned the BMW, police said, and appeared to get into another vehicle to escape. No arrests have been made.

Camera and the injured Hyundai driver were transported to Lincoln Hospital. Camera was pronounced dead at the hospital, and the female driver was listed in stable condition. Martinez described the driver who struck her husband as having "took my life, my heart."

Camera and Martinez, while not legally married, had been a couple for 25 years and shared a 19-year-old daughter. Martinez expressed a desire for justice, stating, "I want him to go to jail. I want him to pay for what he did."
