Broncos' J.K. Dobbins Responds to Playing Time Doubts With Expletives
The veteran running back expressed frustration over questions about his role and playing time.
Denver Broncos running back J.K. Dobbins voiced his displeasure with reporters questioning his reduced playing time and role within the team's backfield. Dobbins, who has experienced a significant decrease in snaps, recently saw his playing time drop to 23% in the Broncos' 30-16 victory over the Miami Dolphins.
Dobbins responded to a reporter's question about being a "former top dog" by stating his frustration with a profanity-laced assertion that he would be upset if the team was losing and he wasn't getting carries. "I like to consider myself a pro, right? Now, if we’re losing, and I’m not getting the carries, s–t, I’m gonna be mad as f–k," Dobbins said. He emphasized his primary goal is winning and securing a Super Bowl, indicating he is willing to do what it takes to achieve that.
When pressed about losing carries to younger players, specifically Jonah Coleman and RJ Harvey III, Dobbins referenced the team's recent victory. "We were winning pretty good, right? Weren’t we?" he asked, referencing the 30-16 win. Dobbins, who has dealt with numerous injuries throughout his NFL career, has not played more than 13 games since his rookie season.
The running back engaged in a back-and-forth with a reporter about his performance during the game. When asked about his carries and yards, Dobbins quizzed the reporter on his observation of the game. The reporter stated Dobbins had roughly 23 yards on four carries and averaged four yards per carry. Dobbins, who finished the game with six carries for 23 yards, corrected the reporter, noting his average was closer to five yards per carry.
"I’m a math guy," Dobbins stated, before reiterating his point about the team's success in the game. "We were winning pretty good right? Weren’t we? Correct? So can you take that into account before you’re saying stuff like that," he told the reporter. He also mentioned his role in coaching younger players, stating, "And I’m always there to coach my young guys, RJ is my rookie… I want to see them succeed. We were up by a lot I want to win the game."
Dobbins also took exception to being labeled a veteran, clarifying his age. "You keep calling me a vet. I’m not old. I’m 27 years old. Not old. I’m not 30. I’m not even close to 30," he said. He expressed a desire for clarity and accuracy in reporting and affirmed his support for his teammates.
In the recent game, Dobbins recorded his lowest snap count of the season at 23 percent. In contrast, Coleman, returning from injury, had the highest snap share on the team at 49 percent.
