Reality television personality Brittany Cartwright has been granted a temporary restraining order against her estranged husband, Jax Taylor, amidst their ongoing divorce proceedings. The order, issued by Los Angeles Superior Court, mandates that Taylor remain at least 100 yards away from Cartwright.
Cartwright's filing on Thursday detailed allegations of abuse spanning several years, including claims of death threats and physical violence. In a declaration, Cartwright alleged that during an argument in July 2024, Taylor threatened to harm her and threw furniture, resulting in a bruised and swollen knee, for which she provided photographic evidence. She also accused Taylor of damaging her property, including three phones and an iPad, during the same incident.
Allegations of Abuse
Cartwright's declaration further outlined accusations of "coercive control, financial abuse, emotional and psychological abuse, gaslighting and even physical violence." She also stated that Taylor made "degrading and humiliating" comments about her in front of their five-year-old son, Cruz.
A text message exchange included in the court documents appears to show a dispute between the couple regarding their son's custody and Taylor's alleged concerns about Cartwright's home environment. Taylor questioned Cartwright's comfort with his presence, citing concerns about alcoholism and animal droppings. Cartwright responded by stating she did not feel safe with him on her property and that pickups would occur off-site.
Cartwright initially sought sole custody of their son, Cruz, but a judge reportedly denied the request pending a court hearing. Cruz is autistic.
Taylor's Response
In a public statement released on social media, Taylor acknowledged making "a lot of mistakes" and behaving in ways he now regrets during a period of addiction. He stated he has been sober for over a year and is committed to treatment and therapy.
Taylor expressed surprise at the resurfacing of alleged incidents from over two years ago, noting that no police reports or criminal charges were ever filed. He asserted that he disputes the allegations and that the "full story, context and evidence will be addressed where it belongs - in court." Taylor concluded by stating his focus remains on sobriety, mental health, and being a present father.
Background and Relationship History
Cartwright and Taylor were together from 2015 until 2024. Taylor was an original cast member of Bravo's "Vanderpump Rules," with Cartwright joining in its fifth season. Both were later removed from the show but returned for the 2024 spin-off series "The Valley." Taylor departed "The Valley" last year to seek treatment for substance abuse and mental health issues.
More recently, Cartwright labeled Taylor's relationship with her former publicist and friend, Lori Krebs, as a "complete betrayal." Cartwright stated that Krebs was still her publicist and receiving payments when the romance with Taylor became public.
When approached by photographers on Saturday in Los Angeles, Cartwright briefly commented on the restraining order, stating, "Just thanks for the support - I'm okay."
