British Troops to Rehearse Ukraine Peacekeeping Mission in Poland

Hundreds of British troops, accompanied by military personnel from France and Germany, are scheduled to deploy to Poland next month for large-scale exercises simulating post-war peacekeeping operations in Ukraine. The drills aim to prepare for scenarios where a ceasefire has been reached and European peacekeepers would act as a deterrent.

At least 1,500 troops in total will participate in the multinational exercise, which will involve simulating the movement of personnel and logistical supplies. The objective is to rehearse a post-war environment and ensure readiness to support Ukraine's military training and rebuilding efforts.

British Defense Secretary Wes Streeting, speaking from Washington after meeting with U.S. Secretary of War Pete Hegseth, stated that the exercise is crucial for demonstrating the UK's commitment to Ukraine's success against Russian aggression. "Ukraine is the front line for freedom everywhere, and it's absolutely vital that they prevail against Putin's aggression," Streeting said. "We're planning for the peace and freedom we want to see through our leadership of the coalition of the willing."

A defense source told The Times that the exercise would involve "multinational troops being together in an area." Poland's prime minister has expressed support for the initiative, emphasizing the importance of French and British presence. A Polish official indicated that these rehearsals would strengthen key European military powers in the face of potential threats from Russia.

Meanwhile, General Sir Roly Walker, chief of the general staff, addressed the army's response force, warning of growing global instability and the potential need for soldiers. "Indeed very soon, the political leaders of this country will start to have a frank conversation with the citizens of this country, about just what is going on and where the risk lies, and what the nation must need to be prepared to do," he stated. "You didn't know this, but our nation is going to need you."

This development comes as Ukraine has resumed strikes on Russian oil refineries. A Ukrainian drone attack on Russia's Ryazan region caused a fire at a major oil refinery, marking a significant strike on an energy facility. Former U.S. President Donald Trump has criticized these actions, calling them a "disgrace" and suggesting they are driving up global energy prices. He also controversially blamed Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky for the war and stated he was "not a big fan" of Zelensky.
